BAYERN MUNICH, Germany (AP) — Bayern Munich took control of the Bundesliga on Sunday by beating Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 to move into first place after seven rounds. Kingsley Coman scored his third goal of the season and Robert Lewandowski added a late penalty as the defending champions maintained their perfect record in the league this season. The win was Bayern's fourth straight at home and kept them two points ahead of second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. Monchengladbach, who had won four consecutive matches before the match, were left to rue missed chances from their best players like Julian Brandt and Leon Goretzka. "We're not satisfied," said Bayern coach Niko Kovac. "We have a lot of work to do." In the early game, Hoffenheim beat VfL Wolfsburg 4-0 to move up to sixth place in the table. The result was a blow for Wolfsburg, who were looking to bounce back from a shock defeat to Bayern last weekend. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, having also beaten Mainz 05 and Hertha Berlin. Elsewhere, RB Leipzig beat Schalke 04 2-1 to climb to fifth in the table. Schalke, meanwhile, lost for the first time in eight games since the start of the season. Also on Sunday, Augsburg drew 1-1 with Freiburg while Hannover 96 beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-0. |
