Lens have secured their first victory of the season in Ligue 1 thanks to a two-goal performance from Fofana.

The French side were looking for a positive start to their campaign and they got just that on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Ajaccio at Stade de Lens.

Fofana, who has been in fine form this pre-season, was instrumental in the victory as he scored twice in a dominant display.

His goal came early on in the second half after Ajaccio had taken the lead through a header from a corner.

But Fofana did not let his opponents get the better of him and he responded by scoring within three minutes of coming on as a substitute.

He scored another goal in the dying moments of the match to complete his hat-trick and help his team secure all three points.

Lens manager Christophe Galtier praised Fofana's performance and said that it was "a great day" for the club.

"It's a great day for our club," he told reporters.

"We played well, we worked hard and Fofan is a player who always gives everything."

"He is a good player, a good leader and he deserves to be in this team."

Lens have now won their opening game of the season and will be hoping to continue their winning run against other teams in the league.

They face Rennes next week but Fofana's goals could give them a big boost ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
